ODTU or The Middle East Technical University (METU) is a state university and was founded in 1956. It is situated on the Ankara to Eskisehir Highway, and the campus encompasses Lake Eymir, providing a beautiful, natural setting for studying the 43 undergraduate, 100 Masters, and 66 PhD programs offered by METU across five faculties, and four graduate schools which are located here.
Over 26,000 students study at METU and a significant number of them (around 1,700) are international students. The primary language of instruction at METU is English. Areas of study offered include: Architecture, Arts and Sciences, Economics, Business Administration, International Relations, Education, Engineering, Modern Languages, and Infomatics amongst others.
METU consistently ranks as one of the best universities in Turkey on world rankings such as those produced by Times Higher Education and Webometrics. Notable Alumni include Ali Babacan, currently the Turkish Deputy Prime Minister, and formerly Minister for the Economy and Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Mehmet Ali Talat, former President and Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
