Izmir University of Economics was founded by the Izmir Chamber of Commerce Education and health Foundation in 2001 and is a private, not-for-profit university. It is situated in Balcova in the south west of Izmir. The university offers a total of 30 undergraduate, 21 masters, and 4 PhD programs and has over 6,000 students.
These programs are offered across a total of seven faculties, two graduate schools, a school of foreign languages, a vocational school, and a school of applied management sciences. Students study in a number of subject areas including; Engineering and Computer Sciences, Arts and Sciences, Fine Arts and Design, Economics, Logistics, Business Administration, Communication, Law, Culinary Arts and Management, Social Sciences, Sport Management, Applied Mathematics and Statistics, and Computer Games and Technologies amongst others.
Izmir University of Economics has exchange agreements with 132 other universities world-wide and is a member of various networks and organisations such as the European University Association, International Association of Universities and was the first Foundation University in Turkey to receive the ECTS label from the European Commission for its implementation of the Bologna Process.
